Landing Your First Job
When I was 18 years old, I worked in a small town in middle New Zealand for a butchery and produce shop. I was on my third day into the job and the owner told me that I could go out the back and "muck" around with the produce boy. Why my boss would say that to me, I won't ever know, but it creeped me out enough that I quit the following week after another incident. As an 18 year old, I had my mum who supported me through that situation, but sometimes you aren't quite sure where to go.
I decided to go and speak to other students about landing their first job and what they should be expecting when they do get a job, since my first experiences were often not the greatest. I have since been welcomed to a number of schools and with practice I am getting better (and less nervous) speaking to students.
